Lower School Courses of Study in English focus on the teaching of processes and strategies that  students will be able to use in all other Courses of Study in their Educational Programmes.

These processes and strategies are –

• Use the conventions of standard English in writing - spelling, writing and paragraphs are emphasised.
• Prepare and participate in a range of one to one, individual and group oral language activities.
• Understand, order and convey facts, ideas and opinions in a variety of comprehending and composing situations.
• Understand and respond to structure, style and tone, and vary language according to audience and purpose.
• Understand and use a wide vocabulary
• Plan, draft, edit, note-take and summarise

Students cover Reading, Viewing, Writing and Speaking/Listening strands and
sub-strands. Courses address all of the English Learning Area Outcomes.

In Upper School a Course of Study is composed of eight semester length units.  Entry into a specific unit is dependent on the outcome Level the students have achieved. Students must complete at least four units of English to achieve the WACE certificate.

The Course of Study in Year 11 covers –

• Text Traidtions & Cluture Course of Study, or
• English Course of Study, or
• English as an Additional Language Course of Study.

The Course of Study in Year 12 covers –

• Texts Traditions & Culture Course of Study, or
• English Course of Study, or
• English as an Additional Language Course of Study.
