Early Childhood Studies
This Course of Study is offered in Years 11 and 12. No prerequisite required. It is desirable to have completed Year 11 Early Childhood if considering the Year 12 Course.
The course aims to develop in both male and female students a greater understanding of the value of children and families in our society.
Opportunities are provided to –
- explore and analyse all aspects on the development of children - birth to five years of age.
- Extend experiences to understand the critical nature of a caring and supportive environment for child development
- Analyse all aspects of services and networks available to familes.
- Develop students' feelings of self worth through teamwork and cooperation with children, peers and community members.
The course is an introduction to further studies in the service occupations including social work, teaching, nursing, medicine, physiotherapy, speech therapy and child care related vocations.
Students are given the opportunity to complete the St John Senior First Aid Certificate.
