Courses in Drama.
The Lower School courses are designed in Year 9 to develop basic theatre skills and knowledge of the theatre art form. The courses includes -
- origins and development of theatre
- practical work of improvisation, theatre movement and voice.
Continuing the course in Year 10 students are taught the elements of drama that contribute to theatre. The emphasis is on
- characterisation
- text, use of acting space
- awareness of audience
- links between technical, actor and audience
Further study provides the student with –
- experiences to develop an original piece of Youth Theatre
- action research
- workshop and attention to a youth theatre model.
Upper School Courses in Drama.
The Drama Course of Study is inclusive of general and vocational education catering for a full range of achievement in years 11 and 12. The course is for students who intend studying Drama, Arts Management, Theatre Design and Theatre Studies at tertiary level. Also, students who intend studying or seeking employment in vocational areas such as acting, directing, design of sets, costumes lighting or sound and theatre management.
Year 11 course offered includes exploring drama with a broad focus covering -Year 12 course offered provides a number of units including the topics of dramatic action, challenge and identity and text and style. Some aspects of drama students’ study include –
- small-scale drama performance projects
- techniques and the way stories and ideas are communicated in and through actors
- focuses on drama events
- participation in a public performance for an audience other than class members.
- analysis of the way drama technologies have been developed
- the work of particular practitioners
- perform and produce a published drama work
- refinement of their skills in voice and movement
- techniques for control of vocal delivery in performance
- funding of drama
- components of production budget
- stage managing and planning and production schedules
- safety in the working environment
