Dance

Courses in the Art of Dance.
The Year 9 course provides -
- experience in movement to develop skills and knowledge.
- improvement in self-confidence and organisational skills.
- skills taught are based on traditions and styles from a range of cultures.
The Year 10 course extends students repertoire -
- exploring dance styles from the past and the present.
- incorporates a range of production and design elements
- enhancement in the ability for choreography.
- students construct their own dance and perform to a variety of audiences.
Additionally, a component of the Year 10 course develops students creativity and leadership skills.
Upper School Courses in Dance - Years 11 and 12.
Students are provided, in these courses with the possibility of entry into the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Other career possibilities are in arts/dance administration, dance therapy, entertainment, acting, stage craft/make-up artist, costuming, teaching or set design.
The Year 11 Course, consists of -
- pratical and theoretical study of dance.
- ability to create, perform and appreciate dance within historical and multicultural context are taught.
The activities studied contribute to the enhancement of self-confidence, creativity and communication in the student’s personal growth.
The Year 12 Course, consists of –
- further study in choreograph, performance and appreciation
- analysing issues in dance in Australia
- organise and produce a dance performance
- understanding health issues for dancers
- the techniques and coreography in three different dance genres
